What will I be doing during the residency program?

Your primary focus during residency will be to attend class sessions and complete coursework as part of the residency program. These courses have been created so that you'll have the opportunity to explore the local area through a design lens. This may include visits to museums, architecture tours, and other activities that contextualize design within the cultural and physical environment of the residency location. In the evenings, you participate in social events that foster connections within your DSI peers.
Where do I stay during my residency?

Design Studies Institute works with local partners within the residency location to provide lodging near residency activities. This includes local hotels, hostels, or university dormitories.
What is the cost of attending residency?

A Residency Fee is billed to your account in the term your residency takes place. You are also billed for Course Assessment Fees related to your course registration during the residency program.
How do I travel to and from residency programs?

Students are responsible for planning their travel to and from the residency program location. Costs associated with transit for residency-sponsored activities are covered by the Residency Fee.
Do I need a passport to travel to the residency program?

Depending on your place of domicile, a passport may be required. All students in the MDes and DDes programs are required to have a valid passport and to maintain that passport throughout their studies.
Do I need to prepare for my residency program?

Residency programs include online, synchronous course sessions both pre- and post-residency programs. These course sessions prior to the residency program focus on preparation for the program. Following the residency, these sessions help you to synthesize your experience and finalize course deliverables.
Is residency required or optional?
